Reborn with Nic

Birth and postnatal doula

Nic, your doula

Birth, whatever way it unfolds, has the power to be completely transformative. Whether it's your first baby or your fifth, you're reborn every time you welcome a new baby into your world.

Hi, I'm Nicola (Nic)

A birth and postnatal doula and complete birth geek - from being 14, when I went to Waterstones to buy a book on birth and the older woman at the counter was 100% sure I was pregnant and raised her eyebrows. It was totally worth it though — I read it cover to cover, and have read countless since.

So imagine my shock when I had my first child and left the hospital feeling like it all went wrong. How did that happen to me? I felt like the most prepared person in the room.

It turns out, I had more to learn. I did my doula training that year and went on to have a home birth that completely changed my life — how I feel about myself, and how I mother. I couldn't believe the difference; I wanted everyone to feel that way. And it wasn't because I birthed at home — it was because I was informed, well supported, I made decisions that were right for me, and I believed in the power of my own body.

Your body is incredible

I believe in the power of women's bodies, designed perfectly for birth. Variations of normal are just that — normal — and many interventions can be avoided, with better outcomes. I take an evidence-based approach, and I'm grateful that interventions exist for when we really need them.

The right way is your way

But I don't believe in a right way to birth. I'll be there if you're planning a home birth with all the hypnobirthing and physiological trimmings, but I'll also be there with bells on if you want a hospital birth, an epidural, or a planned section. My only goal in doing this work is to support you to enter motherhood — for the first, second, third, fourth, or even tenth time — feeling like the Queen you are. Not on the back foot, unpacking trauma you never asked or planned for. Just cared for, respected, listened to, and nourished.

Breast can be best

I'd love to support you with breastfeeding and any challenges you come up against with feeding — but I'll never make you feel like that's your only option.

Birth support

£1,500
  1. We'll meet for a free, no pressure chat

I can visit you at your home or another place that's convenient for you, a phone or zoom chat also works if this is what you prefer. I'll be looking to learn what you want from a doula so that I can talk through how best I can support you. This is also time for you to see if I'm the right doula to support you. It's such an important and personal choice, I promise I'll never contact you to see if you've made up your mind!

  2. Before the birth

We'll meet a couple of times, at your home or somewhere else. I'll explain all about birth physiology and how we can work with it for the type of birth you want. I want to know your dream birth, and I'll do my very best to protect it — and if plans change, I'll be there to advocate with you or for you so that plan B feels like a compromise and not a kibosh.

I can come to antenatal appointments with you if you're coming up against challenges and need some extra support, and I'll be on the other end of the phone for the duration of your pregnancy - I'm here for your midnight voice notes!

  3. On call from 38 weeks

I'll be on call from 38 weeks until your baby is born — and of course I'll move mountains to get there if your baby comes earlier.

  4. After the birth

I'll come and visit you whenever suits you — a day later, a month later. We can unpack the birth together; I'll help you make sense of how it unfolded, or we can simply talk endlessly about what a complete hero you were. I can also help you with feeding, newborn care and any anxieties you have.
